Graham Evans MP makes a visit to Grozone to help install “foundation sets” in the community garden’s bee hives.
After making a foundation set for one of the hives, and forgoing the traditional beekeepers suit, Mr Evans dived straight in and placed his set within one of the hives. These “sets” act as a foundation onto which the bees create their well-known honeycombs, which in time will store a rich local honey to be enjoyed by visitors, staff and volunteers.
Speaking at the gardens, Mr Evans commented: “It is fantastic to see how much the garden has really come on over the years, I helped out during the very early stages with lots of clearing and digging and it is just great to see the fruits of all the hard work that has gone into the project now paying dividends, I was delighted to come back to help out with the bees”
After a tour round the whole garden, Mr Evans spoke to many of the visitors, staff and volunteers whilst enjoying some home-baked cake. He was very encouraged to see so many local people using the site.
“It is simply wonderful that this local project is even more accessible now that it is open six days a week, and it’s very encouraging to see so many people using the site. I know that it is as enjoyable a place to volunteer as to visit, and I would like to pay tribute to the organisers and volunteers that make it such a special environment. It is a great time for Northwich at the moment and this oasis is a little gem in the heart of our ever improving town. As a frequent visitor to the gardens, there is always something new to see and something to do... It is always a hive of activity”.
