Our History
Danefield Nurseries had been derelict for 18 years when the first site visits took place in summer 2008.
An initial consultation process and Community Design Event followed early the next year.
Once planning permission had been granted the much-needed tidy up could begin in earnest.
Pupils from Victoria Road Primary School helped to design one of our very first features- the now iconic totem pole.
In November 2010 we were awarded £48,000 in funding by the People's Millions to really help kick-start the project.
The garden continued to flourish with the introduction of bee hives, a yurt and a greenhouse with the capacity for water-harvesting.
In March 2014 the project was awarded a grant of £198,243 by the Big Lottery Fund. This two year grant enabled us to expand our team and open 6 days a week, so that more people could benefit from Grozone.
The project no longer receives core funding from The BLF, and we are now working hard to generate income in a variety of different ways - for more information, please see the various projects on our 'get involved' page. We are always looking for new volunteers, new funders and new ways to generate income ourselves.
